Abstract

This research aims to understand the background that makes Nyadran and Paguyuban Budiluhur a medium for maintaining inter-religious harmony in Kapas Village through the perspective of Max Weber's social action theory. This qualitative research employed descriptive methods by observation, guided free interviews, and field research documentation through the practice of Nyadran tradition and the activities of Paguyuban Budiluhur in Kapas village. This research found that social actions are more inclined to instrumental rational action because of the institutionalisation of the Nyadran tradition into the village's annual agenda and the Paguyuban Budiluhur in a foundation. Then, in the phenomenological analysis, it was found that hybrid social space, social interaction, and nationalism (because Motive), as well as the guarantee of human rights (in order to motive), became factors that encouraged the success of efforts to maintain inter-religious harmony in Kapas Village. Furthermore, these factors align with the vision of religious moderation formulated by the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs.
